Are you struggling with confused clients?

Hi, my name's Kelly and I am the director of ME4 Events, and I've been in the event industry for over 25 years.

Okay, so how do we deal with clients that don't really quite know what they want? I see it all the time.

Normally it's because there's a group of people trying to pull something off and they're all got their little bit of ideas and no one's really working together. Or they're really struggling on how to make whatever it is in their head a reality.

So don't be too harsh on them. You never know. They could just be very inexperienced or just need a little bit of a helping hand as to where they need to go. Think about having a check sheet.

If you are going to clients all the time and you are asking them specific questions, think about making yourself an actual check sheet so you can give it to them so they can go through it and see whether anything helps them. Because I can guarantee you a lot of the questions that are on that check sheet, they might not have even thought about.

Sometimes steering in the right direction is gonna make your life a hell of a lot easier, but just make sure you are not actually then doing their job for them. Advice can be golden. Just don't be pushy about it. You can always steer people in the right direction without actually letting them know that you are steering them in the right direction just to try and help.

Make sure whatever you end up doing, you follow up in writing, whether it be an email, whether it be a printed document. Always make sure that you cover everything back up in an email so that you know what you was talking about, they know what they was talking about. And then if all of a sudden something changes, you can change it in writing, turning up on the venue and then having a bright idea can literally change everything.

So make sure you make notes, then follow it up in writing. Make sure you confirm what they've decided to change is actually going to change. I've turned up on venues before we've had conversations, we've spoken about something, they've decided they're gonna change something. The day of the event, we turn up on site and they go, No, actually don't think I wanna do that now. Or Dunno what you're talking about. Well, we were talking about it, but I didn't actually say yes or no. Nightmare.

Get things in writing. If this was helpful and you'd like some more Blogs, then please let is know
